The same difference: 3.1 Philip Lim, Ella Moss and Velvet

Summer clothes have hit the stores again, and what could be more summer-y than the little white dress. I really like this 3.1 Philip Lim lwd. It would look great with my tortoise shell or my aviator sunnies and is just great for wearing either to school or around town.

Ella Moss (left) and Velvet (right) also have similar designs.

Pair with shiny happy metallics sandals in varying heights...

(all from Topshop)

Or for a preppier choice, with wedges in punchy colours...

(all from Topshop).

And finally, accessorise with a funky cocktail ring like this...

The gold and black colour combination is way cool, and the panther adds a nice edgy touch.

The year of the dress part 6: halter necks

Halter neck dresses are one of my current favourites for this season, especially since their shape allows for the showing off of creamy shoulders and elegant necks. In this post i present to you my favourite halter neck dresses:

These two dresses are from Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, the designer's diffusion line, and they have a sporty vibe. I particularly like the one on the left. The purple and black combination has a sort of quirkiness to it that would make it unique for day time wear, and funky for night.

Other nice pieces include these two by T-bags and Dahl respectively. These can be easily paired with metallic sandals for day wear, or dressed up for an evening date with patent leather pumps and a chic clutch.

Sandals for the day (these pairs are from Urban Outfitters)...

...and pumps for night (these yummys are from Marc by Marc Jacob. My favourite label for shoes.)

Then there are these two lovelies from Foley for Foley+Corinna (left) and Geren Ford (right). The Foley piece would do really well for a classy dinner or night out, while the Ford piece is a nice casual piece for a day out in town. Or if you're a student like me, a nice piece for school.

And finally, these two dresses are from Paul and Joe and 3.1 Philip Lim respectively. The Paul and Joe piece has a classic quality about it. First, because it has polka dots, second because it is white, and third, because it has a nipped waist, it seems straight out from 1930s movie, where the wealthy heroine would match a dress like this with a big white hat and genteelly sip tea in her garden. (I think i watch too many period movies. Move forward a few decades and the purple colour and trapeze shape would not look out of place in a night club like Studio 54. Just remember to add some serious bling. Gold hoop earrings would do very nicely.

These pairs from Urban Outfitters would do very nicely indeed.

The same difference: 3.1 Philip Lim

For those of you who have been reading this blog, you might realise that i am fond of two things: 3.1 Philip Lim, and looking for high street alternatives to designer pieces. In this post, i combine both.

This is one of 3.1 Philip Lim's more famous pieces.

Why? Cos Kate Hudson wore it on the red carpet. Enough said.

Here are the high street alternatives:

From Arden B.

From French Connection.

The Year of the Dress part 4: The chiffon dress

Chiffon dresses were one of my favourite in the Spring 2007 catwalk roundups. I particularly like the 3.1 Philip Lim ones---one more reason why this is my favourite label :) I love the way that chiffon dresses teas: they tend to come in conservative shapes, and while they "cover up", they're also see through. Here's to chiffon.

These 2 are from 3.1 Philip Lim.

I didn't take down where I got these pictures from. I don't think these are from the Spring 2007 season. Maybe last year's Autumn Winter. Were they Oscar de la Renta? These are the counterparts of 3.1 Philip Lim's white chiffon pieces.

This is from Chloe and i like it very much. It has this retro bookish-sexy vibe. Pair with stacked T-bars or Mary Janes worn with socks, and go and pose at a bookshelf in the library.
From Aerosoles and Two Lips respectively. Super nerdy but that's the whole point. For those who think the brown shoes are taking the nerd-chic thingy a little too far, there are these black options:
From Franco Sarto and Nina.

For a t-bar option there this pair from Frye, a label well known for producing good sturdy shoes, particularly boots.
And if you're still in a spending mood after the Chloe dress, you could pair the dress with the creme de la creme of shoes:
Christian Louboutin.

And of course, there are the high street options.

This is from French Connection. I tried it on, very flattering. The colour is darker in real-life than in the picture.

This is similar to the French Connection piece and it's from Topshop. While it isn't in chiffon, i couldn't resist adding it to this post. I just love the shape.

This is from Mango.

From Mango. A nice way to pair chiffon, with something thicker, and the wide belt anchors down an otherwise floaty piece.

From Adam+Eve . One of my favourite labels as well for its cool preppy look. Can also be paired with ballet flats and worn with a cute jacket like this Moschino Cheap and Chic (not cheap but very chic).

Kate and Kass. I like the mod shape.

The year of the dress part 3: the Little White Dress

While the little black dress (lbd for short), which Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's propelled into iconic status, will remain an closet favourite for years to come, its lesser known cousin the little white dress (lwd, also featured in the film but for some reason was not as popular), is fast picking up on the popularity stakes. Particularly now with white such a prominent feature in the Spring 2007 collections, and its airy colour very suitable for spring.

The famous little black dress.

The, until recently, sidelined little white dress.

Catwalk options:

From Balmain. As you can see, it takes "little" literally.

From my current favourite label---3.1 Philip Lim. For a very "white" collection, check out Badgley Mischka's Spring 2007 show. It is a bride's, and those harbouring bridal ambitions, dream.

From Michon Schur. White, short and chiffon-y. What's not to like.

From See by Chloe. Love the Grecian details.

I got this from www.net-a-porter.com. Forgot the name of the designer, but it looks really 1920s. Would be lovely to pair with ballet flats and wear to school.

From Theory. I like the detailing. The hardware toughens up this piece and the juxtaposition is just great.

Prada. Can't or won't afford this? Miss Selfridge has a similar option at a fraction of the Prada price.

This is from Alice + Olivia.

This is also Alice + Olivia. I prefer this piece. Very Merrakesh or Ibiza.

I'm not sure where i got this picture from. But i really really like this dress and the way the model's hair goes with it. I'd wear this to school too.

From Milly. This is a cute interpretation of the Little White Dress. It's mod shape provides a nice difference from the other floaty white pieces.

For high street options, besides the Miss Selfridge number shown above, there are these:

This Bebe piece is just pretty and can be easily dressed up or down.

From Mango. The buttons are a cute touch.

Mango was really smart to get Milla Jovovich as their spokesperson. Not only is she gorgeous but she has a very cool sense of style and her label Jovovich-Hawk stands out from most celebrity labels as actually being creative and chic (L.A.M.B is another one). This tunic and the gold lining is a great combination, and it has a gives out a easy elegance vibe.
